Petit Le Mans Preview

There are only a few days until the end of the ALMS final season.  The 1,000 mile Petit Le Mans kicks off on Saturday, October 19th at 11:30 am and will feature a field of two dozen cars competing in five classifications.

At yesterday’s test sessions at Road Atlanta, Level 5 Motorsports recorded the fastest lap time in the P2 classification.  The #551 lead Level 5 car averaged 123.554 mph to end with a lap time of 1:14.008. Rebellion Racing and Muscle Milk Pickett Racing, both of P1, had the fastest laps of the day. In PC it was 8Star Motorsports coming in first while SRT Motorsports had the fastest GT lap and Flying Lizard Motorsports was fastest in GTC.

Petit Le Mans will determine the final championships for all the classifications.  With several drivers and teams being only a few points apart in the current standings, it should be an exciting day of racing as racers and fans alike say farewell to the American Le Mans Series. Next year ALMS will become part of the new United SportsCar Challenge.

Here is a video preview of the Petit Le Mans — look for Level 5′s own Guy Cosmo as he shares his feelings about the end of ALMS:

  1. It’s really exciting when it gets down to the wire like this! everyone drove so well, it’s no wonder that when the world’s best get together, they find themselves in closely matched competitions.

  2. I didn’t realize that this was the last year of the Le Mans! I love this circuit and the sophistication of this race. United Sports Car Challenge just doesn’t feel the same to me.
